Man hospitalized after fire at DeLand storage facility

One person was injured and taken to the hospital Friday morning after a fire broke out at a storage unit facility on North Spring Garden Avenue, authorities said.

DeLand firefighters responded to the scene at 800 N. Spring Garden Ave. at 10:35 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire. 

Upon arrival, crews found flames inside multiple storage units and began working to extinguish the blaze.

An adult male, identified as the reporting party, was located outside one of the affected storage units, firefighters said.

He told officials his storage unit was on fire and requested medical assistance.

The fire was contained to three storage units, and additional crews inspected adjacent units to ensure there was no further spread.

The injured man was transported by Volusia County EMS to an Orlando-area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burn injuries. 

His condition has not been released.

The DeLand Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. 

No other injuries were reported.
