Man dies after Orlando officer-involved shooting, police say
ORLANDO, Fla. - A suspect police said was acting suspiciously and carrying a gun near a busy Orlando intersection has died after an officer-involved shooting.
Police said Saturday that 63-year-old Marvin Martin died of "unknown complications" after the shooting.
Police were initially dispatched out to the area of John Young Parkway and Old Winter Garden Road around 2:20 p.m. after reports of a man in black carrying a weapon. When officers arrived, they encountered Martin and repeatedly ordered him to drop the gun, according to police said. The man refused and was shot by an officer, police said.
Marvin was to face charges of resisting without violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and unlawful exhibition of a firearm.
He had a prior criminal history, including a conviction on a second-degree murder charge for which he served 20 years, according to OPD Chief Smith. He was released from prison in 2023.
The shooting will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
