Man chased, detained by group after St. Cloud hit-and-run: Police
ST. CLOUD, Fla. - One man is in custody after police said he left the scene of a crash and later detained after attempting to steal a bike by a group of men, according to officials with the St. Cloud Police Department.
City officials initially responded out to the intersection of 13th Street and Orange Avenue after 9 a.m. following reports of a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and pedestrian, police said.
While searching for a suspect, police received a call regarding a stolen bike from a home. Upon arrival to the home, officers met a group of men who chased down the suspect, Eric Pursell, and "aggressively asserted ownership" of the biocycle, according to police. It was later determined Pursell was the suspect involved in the hit-and-run crash, according to officials.
Pursell was arrested and will face numerous charges.
The victim in the hit-and-run was taken to a trauma center for treatment.
