An alleged love triangle turned deadly after a fight between two men escalated into a shooting at a Eustis apartment complex, according to police.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the Devonshire Apartments on County Rd 19A, according to the Eustis Police Department. Police were dispatched after two men who were involved in an ongoing dispute over a woman got into a physical altercation that escalated into a shooting where one of them died.

The property manager of the apartment complex told police the two men have had recent disputes for the last several months. The arguments were over a woman, who the property manager said works with the possible shooter and is the mother of the victim's children, according to police.

The relationship between the two men involved in the incident is unclear, but the possible shooter's brother and roommate told police he believed the victim came to the apartment "with the intent to attack his brother," according to police.

The possible shooter is the one who called 911, according to audio released from the Eustis Police Department. "Hey, um, I just shot someone. They were trying to attack me. Can you come?" the man said, apparently out of breath. He's also heard telling the dispatcher, "I still have the firearm on me right now."

A witness told police she believed she heard three gunshots and saw two men running in a nearby field. When officers canvassed the area the witness mentioned, they found a man lying on his back in the grass. He was described as "motionless and pale," and had his eyes open, but they weren't moving. Police said his shirt was soaked in blood and there was a small hole in his shirt.

Police also found a gunshot wound in his right upper chest, in addition to two more wounds at the top center of his right thigh and another near the center of his waist line. Officials performed CPR until medical and fire officials arrived to the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, but later died from his injuries.

The other man was taken into custody, but his name was not released to the public. Police said a gun was recovered amid the ongoing and active investigation. They also shared a photo of apparent brass knuckles found in the grass.
