FEMA eligibility and reapplying after Hurricane Milton

Regional Administrator for FEMA Region 10, Willie Nunn, spoke about eligibility and reapplying for FEMA after damages from Hurricane Milton.

Homeowners and renters in Florida affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene have until Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The deadline marks the final opportunity for individuals who sustained losses during the hurricanes to seek federal aid.

Eligible applicants can apply multiple different ways:

  • Disaster Recovery Centers: Visit any Disaster Recovery Center to register for assistance. Locations can be found at fema.gov/DRC or by texting "DRC" followed by your ZIP code to 43362 (e.g., "DRC 32344").
  • By Phone: Call FEMA at 800-621-3362. Lines are open daily, and assistance is available in multiple languages. Those using relay services, captioned telephones, or other communication services should provide FEMA with their specific contact numbers.
  • Online: Submit an application at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • FEMA Mobile App: Download the FEMA app to apply.

For an accessible video on how to apply, visit FEMA Accessible: Applying for Individual Assistance.

Floridians who have already applied and disagree with FEMA’s decision can appeal within 60 days of receiving their decision letter.

Applicants may need to provide additional information for their appeals to be processed.

Detailed instructions on filing an appeal are available at How to Appeal FEMA’s Decision.
