Man shot, killed by Orlando police officers who were responding to alleged domestic disturbance, chief says
ORLANDO, Fla. - A man was shot and killed late Monday evening during an incident involving Orlando police officers in The Willows neighborhood near Evans High School.
Around 9:13 p.m., officers responded to calls of a domestic disturbance at a home on the 2800 block of Shining Willow Terrace, located near the intersection of Silver Star Road and Pine Hills Road.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said officers made contact with a 26-year-old man, later identified as Timothy Woods, who was sitting on the front porch of the house and said they noticed he was in possession of a gun.

"Officers gave verbal commands to the suspect to not touch the gun. The suspect disobeyed the commands, jumped a fence that was near him and ran," explained OPD Chief Eric Smith during a news conference shortly before midnight.
Chief Smith said officers stopped Wood's escape by cutting him off and again gave verbal commands for him to get on the ground and not reach for the gun, but he refused. Officers then fired a Taser at the Woods and the gun fell to the ground, Chief Smith said.
"The suspect then pulled the Taser prongs out. The suspect reached for the gun that was on the ground near him, disobeying the verbal commands," the chief said. "As a result, both officers shot the suspect."
Officers attempted life-saving measures, but Woods died at the scene.
The chief said Woods was a convicted felon previously arrested for battery, domestic violence, resisting an officer with violence, battery of a law enforcement officer, and armed robbery.
As is standard procedure with shootings involving police officers, the case has been referred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
