Lane change in Maitland causing headaches and confusion
MAITLAND, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A lane change in Maitland is still causing headaches.
From Maitland, you used to have about a mile to get into the correct lane to go on Interstate 4 (I-4) east or west or crossover. But now, you have to decide much quicker on what lane you need to be in and many are still slow to catch on.
The backups have been piling up for more than a week now and it is even worse this week as those changes take full hold. Some drivers say that it can take 15 to 20 minutes to get from light to the next after missing their new split.
State troopers are even saying that several fender benders seem to just be due to confused drivers the last few mornings.
Construction leaders say that Tuesday's commute was better than Monday's though. David Parks from the I-4 Ultimate Project says that "safety is our primary concern whenever we do any of these traffic shifts. We have crews that come out and monitor; see how drivers are adjusting."
Parks say that if the mess persists, they will look at light timings and other small adjustments to smooth out the ride. They hope that this extra long speed bump is nearing the 'new normal.'
Construction teams say that this should be the last big change there for a while, but remember if you are heading to Orlando, get in the right lane -- everyone else, get in the left.
