Lake County introduces new K-9 named 'Scout'
LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Lake County Sheriff's Office has a new K-9 in its ranks.
Deputies introduced Scout, formerly named Rommel, on their Facebook page. They say he is a 10-week-old liver-colored bloodhound who will soon begin his rigorous training.
In the Facebook post, deputies say the dog's name was originally Rommel, a name chosen by Master Deputy Meintzschel, who will be the dog's handler.
Officials say he chose the name to honor a beloved childhood pet, but changed this dog's name because he learned the name was tied to a Nazi war criminal.
The post said, "That being said, knowing that this four-legged public servant belongs to the tax payers of Lake County and his sensitivity to our Veterans, he immediately renamed him 'Scout.'"
