KEATON BEACH, Fla. - Hurricane Idalia made landfall over Florida Wednesday morning, bringing destructive winds and catastrophic storm surge in its way.
Idalia made landfall at 7:45 a.m. in Florida's Big Bend region, near Keaton Beach and not far from Cedar Keys, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 125 mph, making it a strong Category 3 hurricane – a major hurricane.
Shortly before making landfall, Hurricane Idalia was briefly a powerful Category 4 hurricane.
