Body found at home in Orlando, police say

Orlando police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead at a home late Tuesday night.

One man is dead and a quiet Orlando neighborhood is left asking questions about what happened.

The Orlando Police Department said a call came into 911 Tuesday at 8:03 p.m. about a suspicious person. Officers responding to that call found a man dead in a workshop with a private entrance off the front of the home.

"To say this is really a shocker. To hear something that bad happened is a shocker," James Mathews told FOX 35 News early Wednesday morning. The shooting happened in a one-story home at Frigate and Jetsail Drive.  No one was more surprised about it than Maribel. She asked us not to share her last name. "It’s not something I would expect to happen in my home," Maribel said.

Maribel said the victim is a friend of her son’s and that her son asked if his buddy could stay at their home while she was away.

"I guess he was couch-surfing.  My son likes to help people. He lets the crash a night, 2 nights if they don’t have a place to stay. I tell him he can’t be doing that all the time, but he just wants to help," Maribel explained.

Maribel had been away in Mexico for a week. Her son, who was supposed to pick her up at the airport Tuesday night told her he couldn’t get there and asked that she get a ride home.

When she pulled onto Frigate Drive, Maribel soon discovered why. "Police everywhere, I couldn’t get into my house. They wouldn’t give me any information. They had my son, questioning him.  My heart stopped," Maribel said. She told FOX 35 News that police released her son around 5 a.m.

Never did she imagine her son helping a friend would turn into this. She’s now feeling uneasy in her home, not knowing why this happened. "They won’t give me any info because it’s still under investigation," Maribel said.

One neighbor tells FOX 35 News that he heard one muffled gunshot shortly before police showed up at the neighbors home.

Police are not yet releasing the victim's name or a motive.
