Homeowner detains burglar until police arrive
TITUSVILLE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Titusville homeowner found a man breaking into his home and detained him until police arrive.
Titusville Police responded early Tuesday morning to the report of a burglary in progress in the 3700 block of Prescott Street.
Police say the homeowner found the suspect, 31-year-old John Pingrin, in his home rummaging through cabinets in the open garage of his home.
Officers arrived on scene within minutes and found the residents of the home holding Pingrin at bay.
He was arrested and charged with Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription and Theft.
Police say neighbors also noticed a SUV fleeing from the scene and they were able to obtain the license plate number.
Police were able identify the driver as Benjamen Scherer who was arrested two days later and also charged with Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling and Theft.
