DEBARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The DeBary City Council on Wednesday voted unanimously to hold a public hearing June 1, to determine if embattled DeBary Mayor Clint Johnson violated the city charter, which if determined to be true, could mean the mayor would have to forfeit his office.
Some City Council members say Mayor Johnson violated the charter by sending a text to the city manager, instructing him to cancel a meeting, and not fulfilling public records requests.
The vote did not come without a lot of opposition. A lot of people who filled the room believe the council is searching for a way to oust the mayor, because some people just don't like him.
Mayor Clint Johnson made a fast exit at the end of the meeting. The public hearing in June will be an opportunity for both sides to present their case and for the council to decide.
