Girl, 5, airlifted after being struck by car

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a child was struck by a car.  It happened late Wednesday afternoon in Wedgefield, in east Orange County.

A spokesperson with FHP says the child, a 5-year-old girl, ran in front of the car and was pinned under the vehicle.  The driver remained on scene and notified authorities.  Troopers said the parents of the child were inside their home at the time.

The child was transported by helicopter to the hospital.  The driver likely will not face any charges, according to the FHP spokesperson.
