Giant alligator carcass clogs Fort Myers neighborhood drain

FORT MYERS (FOX 13) - Now that's a plumbing problem.

After residents in Fort Myers complained that their neighborhood drainage system was backed up, they called in the county's public works department.  That's when workers found the problem -- a big, stinky problem.

According to County Manager Roger Desjarlais, an 11-foot-long alligator -- dead -- was clogging up the Whiskey Creek neighborhood drain.

Desjarlais shared a photo of the alligator after it had been pulled from the drain.  In just a few hours, the post had been shared hundreds of times.

Wildlife officials told WBBH in Fort Myers that it's not unheard of for alligators to crawl into storm drains or sewers and become stuck.
