Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigates
The backstory:
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said their investigation into Gingras, a high school intensive reading teacher, began in February 2024.
Reports show the school told its resource officer about the possibility of a relationship between a teacher and a student.
Officials said the 18-year-old student involved initially denied the relationship. However, detectives stated they found phone evidence that showed otherwise.
What they're saying:
Sheriffs stated Gingras was escorted off campus during the initial investigation, and Volusia County Schools officials said he was placed on leave to prevent access to students.
School district officials reported they opened an internal investigation and did not renew Gingras’ contract at the end of the school year.
What's next:
Officials stated Gingras is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail on a bond of $25,000.
Reports show Gingras has several conditions for his release if he posts bail, including a GPS monitor, no access to the internet without a court order, and no contact with the student or any witnesses in the case.
