Woman denied lottery win over unemployment

A woman in Kissimmee won nearly $3,000 on a Florida lottery ticket only to learn the state would not pay her. She was told it was because she was overpaid in unemployment benefits during the pandemic.

A Florida Lottery ticket worth $36 million has expired. 

No one claimed the winning Mega Millions ticket, which was drawn Aug. 15, 2023, officials said. It expired on Thursday, Feb. 15. 

The winning numbers were 18-39-42-5-63 with Mega Ball 7 and a 3x multiplier.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at a Publix located at 4495 Roosevelt Boulevard in Jacksonville.

When lottery prizes are left unclaimed, 80% of the funds from expired tickets are transferred directly to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, while the remaining 20% is returned to the pool for future prizes, according to the Florida Lottery's website

Back in December, a Florida Lotto ticket worth $44 million also went unclaimed
