Woman shot, killed in New Year's Eve celebratory gunfire
One person was shot and killed in what appears to be celebratory gunfire on New Year's Eve in Florida, police say. Officers say the person has been identified as 56-year-old Carmen Rosa Neira Ochoa.
A family in Florida is grieving the loss of their mother and grandmother, who was hit by a stray bullet while watching New Year's fireworks from her backyard patio.
"She didn't do anything to anyone. She was a hard-working mother," said Alex Marquez, Ochoa's son in law, told FOX 35's Caroline Coles.
Kissimmee Police responded to 56-year-old Carmen Rosa Neira Ochoa's home at 12:01 a.m. on New Year's Day, minutes after the clock struck midnight. She was found with a gunshot wound and rushed to the hospital, where she died, police said.
Officials believe she was struck by a stray bullet, likely celebratory gunfire.

"I just want to raise awareness to people out there, ya know, celebrating, ya know, don't shoot guns. They don't know what family they can hurt."
On Tuesday, FOX 35 saw detectives and investigators at Ochoa's home, as well as at a home across from hers. FOX 35 was not able to confirm if it was related to the investigation.
