2 arrested after 7-hour standoff in Flagler Co.

Two men were arrested following a standoff in Flagler County Wednesday, deputies said.

Two people were arrested following a seven-hour standoff in Flagler County that began after a deputy was assaulted Wednesday, Sheriff Rick Staly said.

At 6:33 a.m., deputies said they received a call that residents at 94 Forsythe Lane had been playing music throughout the night and that there were chairs, a table, a blanket, and a burning candle in the middle of the street.

When deputies responded to the area, 55-year-old Robert Shawn Dethetow was acting inappropriately in front of deputies and became aggressive - throwing glass bottles at the officers at the scene.

Additional law enforcement came to the home, and Detherow allegedly fled into the house, prompting a standoff.

According to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, Detherow was upset over his son's arrest in March, who was accused of stabbing another person during an argument over religion.

He reportedly came outside twice and was hit with rubber bullets both times before retreating inside.

Several homes were evacuated as deputies cleared all the debris in Detherow's driveway and took the man's garage and front door of his house.

Another person, 23-year-old Kaleb Smith, came outside the home and was struck by a rubber bullet before being arrested. Smith is facing one count of resisting an officer without violence.

A short time later, Detherow went outside the house a third time and was apprehended by law enforcement.

Detherow was arrested for exposure of sexual organs, two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting law enforcement without violence, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
