FHP searching for Ocala hit-and-run driver
OCALA, Fla. (WOGX FOX 51) - Ocala officials need the public’s help identifying and hit-and-run driver who killed a 22-year-old woman.
The incident happened Saturday night around 6:30 p.m. on State Road 40, near Northwest 49th Avenue. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers believe the car is a 2005-2010 possibly silver Chrysler 300 with extensive front end damage.
Troopers identified the victim as 22-year-old Gypsy McEntire. Her mother, Rhonda, said the driver dragged her daughter after they hit her scooter.
“They callously drove another quarter mile, got out of their car and drove off like it was just another day,” said Rhonda. “You left my baby on the side of the road to die.”
Now the mother is seeking justice. She wants anyone who witnessed the crash or knows of the driver to contact FHP or Ocala Police. McEntire also hopes the driver comes forward on his own.
“I’m asking you, I’m pleading with you to please just turn yourself in and do the right thing now,” she said.
Family friends have set up a Go Fund Me page to help cover funeral expenses.
