FHP releases new video in car chase, crash in Sumter County

New details have been released after a suspect leads deputies on a wild chase through Sumter County. The Florida Highway Patrol released new dash cam video from the pursuit.

The video shows troopers hot on the tail of 22-year-old Travis Lovett. It all starting in Citrus County on Sunday where FHP says Lovett stole a truck.

Officials say he tried to run over two deputies who were trying to pull him over.

Lovett led troopers on a chase through Hernando and Sumter counties. During the chase, FHP says Lovett shot at their cruisers, missing troopers, but striking a windshield.

Eventually, troopers pulled a pit manuever, sending Lovett and the truck rolling.

"When we have a suspect who is hell-bent on avoiding all contact with law enforcement, their behavior becomes unpredictable and erratic," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Pendergrast. "This is especially true if they are dead set on not being caught, then they will risk their life, the lives of innocent citizens, and the lives of all our law  enforcement deputies."

Lovett was handcuffed and taken to the hospital for his injuries. He was booked into the Sumter County Jail.

Lovett is facing multiple charges including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
