Backups on I-4 after deadly crash
The morning commute was delayed on Wednesday after a reported deadly crash on I-4, near World Drive. Both lanes reopened shortly before 7 a.m. FOX 35 has reached out to FHP for additional information.
A 28-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 4, prompting the freeway to be closed for several hours and into the morning rush hour, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. on westbound Interstate 4 near mile marker 62. The roadway reopened shortly before 7 a.m.
According to FHP, the drivers of a semi truck and a Kia Forte were stopped in an active construction zone on I-4. The driver of a pickup truck, who was also traveling westbound on I-4, failed to notice the vehicles were stopped and slammed into the Kia Forte, which caused it to crash into the semi truck.
The driver inside the Kia Forte – a 28-year-old woman – died at the scene, FHP. The driver of the semi – a 61-year-old man – was not injured.
The 33-year-old man who was in the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, FHP said.
