Deputies investigate fatal shooting outside mall
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting outside the Florida Mall. Deputies responded to the west entrance of the JC Penney store around 7:20 p.m., where a man was discovered deceased inside a vehicle.
The perimeter of the JC Penney parking lot has been blocked off with crime scene tape while crime scene technicians comb the scene. The rest of the mall the mall's parking lot remains open. Authorities said a second man was injured in this shooting incident and has been transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he is undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown at present time.
"We believe, at this point, that the shooting happened somewhere in this parking lot," said Jane Watrel, spokesperson with the Sheriff's Office. "One victim is dead. The other victim ran to the entrance of JC Penney's to flag down a citizen, and that citizen called 911."
It remains unclear if the two men knew each other.
Deputies identified the men involved in the shooting as 20-year-old Andrew Garland, who was killed in the shooting and 20-year-old Samuel Destin who was last listed in critical condition.
