Man's body struck by multiple cars on Osceola County road; search underway for hit-and-run driver, FHP says

A man was killed in an alleged hit-and-run crash in Osceola County early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway at Westside Boulevard, troopers said. Authorities shut down the area for an investigation, which prompted traffic delays. 

The area has since reopened. 

According to troopers, an unknown vehicle was being driven eastbound on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway when its driver struck a man crossing the road, before taking off.

The collision caused the man to be thrown into the direct path of another car, which subsequently hit him, troopers said. A witness at the scene told FHP the man may have been struck by other vehicles after the impact with the second car.

The man, who was reportedly not using a crosswalk when the crash happened, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to identify him. 

Troopers are looking for the driver of the first vehicle that initially hit the man and did not stop. They are asking the community to be on the lookout for a possible Toyota SUV or truck with front-end damage.
