According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the sheriff's office vehicle was traveling northbound on the Turnpike, when the deputy said he had a "mechanical issue", causing him to lose control. The patrol vehicle became disabled, and entered the path of the Subaru, causing a collision.
The deputy driving the F-150 sustained minor injuries and was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital. The 37-year-old driver of the Subaru was also transported to the hospital, but he was later pronounced dead. Troopers said he was from St. Cloud.
