"Deadliest Catch" star Nick Mavar has died. The former deckhand was 59.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Police Chief Elbie of the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department in Alaska said they have "confirmed the passing of Nick Mavar Jr. On June 13th 2024."

The statement continued, "The Bristol Bay police department received a call for a medical emergency at a boatyard in Naknek. Medics responded and transported Nick Mavar Jr. to Camai medical center where they attempted life-saving measures."

"Mr. Mavar was later pronounced deceased and next of kin has been notified," the statement continued. The Bristol Bay Borough Police Department noted that it is still waiting to speak to witnesses that were present.

There aren't any details available at this time about the nature of the medical emergency Mavar suffered from in Alaska.

Mavar was seen on "Deadliest Catch" from 2005 to 2021 for 98 episodes. He was also seen on spinoffs "Deadliest Catch: Siberian Winter" and "Deadliest Catch: The Bait." In 2020, Mavar decided to leave the Discovery Channel show because of a health scare involving a ruptured appendix while aboard the Northwestern, which was seen in his final episodes.

There was also drama that formed after Mavar's health scare. According to Deadline, he sued Sig Hansen and the owners of F/V Northwestern and alleged there wasn't a proper health care plan for him to get medical treatment during the coronavirus pandemic.

Nick was also the uncle of captain Jake Anderson. On "Deadliest Catch," Mavar was seen helping his nephew through his alcohol and drug addiction problems.

In 2021, Anderson shared a tribute to Mavar, thanking him for his help throughout their time on the show.

"I love you uncle Nick Mavar you are the embodiment of fisherman. Thank you for pulling me out of the mire so many years ago," he wrote in part.
