Daytona Beach plans massive sports complex to boost economy

Daytona Beach officials are proposing a sprawling 600-acre sports complex designed to attract a new wave of visitors and bolster the local economy.

The city-owned land, located off I-95 and International Speedway Boulevard, would feature a 10,000-seat stadium, multiple fields and courts, a pool, an ice rink, and concessions.

Project managers emphasize the need to secure funding, including private sector contributions, which could determine the order of construction phases.

"If we have a lot of participation that comes from the private sector, that are interested in naming rights and assist with building the indoor portion, then that's where we are going to go first,"  said Jeff Brown, Economic and Strategic Opportunities Director for the City of Daytona Beach.
