Daytona Beach man arrested after being accused of impersonating a hotel security guard in Port St. Lucie
ORLANDO, Fla. - A Daytona Beach man was arrested after being accused of impersonating a hotel security guard in Port St. Lucie.
What we know: 34-year-old Johnny Alonzo Leonard, is accused of posing as hotel security at WoodSpring Suites.
Timeline: According to officials, around 3:30 p.m. on January 10, a 17-year-old male and female were parked in the back lot of the hotel and were engaging in "intimate activities" in the back of the female's car.
Leonard approached the car and stated that he was hotel security, and he had called the police. He proceeded to ask the victims for their ID's, and the male gave the suspect his driver's license.
The suspect then commanded that the male victim step out of the car and began to search him. The male victim alleged that Leonard put his hands underneath his underwear and touched his genitals.
Leonard then allegedly told the female to leave and she drove away. He then took the male victim's phone and told him to come with him into the hotel. Once in the hotel, Leonard found sexual videos on the victim's phone which he sent to himself.
After stating he would take the victim to a "public place" to meet with police, the suspect instead drove the victim to a bus station on SW Gatlin Boulevard. There, the victim exited the vehicle and fled to a nearby Home Depot, where he contacted both the female victim and the police. Detectives used GPS data and surveillance footage to verify the victim’s account.
Using the phone number the suspect had used to send the victim’s personal videos, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit identified and contacted the suspect, Leonard. He was interviewed at the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
However, during the interview, Leonard managed to remove his handcuffs and briefly leave the interview room before being quickly apprehended again.
Leonard is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of false imprisonment
- Robbery without a weapon
- Larceny
- Transmission of child pornography
- Impersonating a security guard while committing a felony
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
- Attempted escape
He is being held at the St. Lucie County Jail on a $185,000 bond.
