Daytona 500 postponed: Why it was moved to Monday

Frank Kelleher, president of Daytona International Speedway, stopped by Good Day Orlando to talk about the Daytona 500 race being postponed. He said it takes 3-4 hours to properly dry the track, as well as at least 3 hours to conduct the race and with the weather forecast and rain, there just wasn't a window to do it. The Daytona 500 has been postponed to Monday.

Back in November 2023 –  three months ahead of the Daytona 500 race at Daytona International Speedway – NASCAR officials announced that the race and camping areas were sold out, marking the earliest sellout for the event.

Three months later – February 2024 – a rainy Sunday in Florida forced the race to be postponed to Monday, Feb. 19. The race will now be held at 4 p.m. – and will broadcast on FOX 35. The NASCAR Xfinity Series will also be held on Monday night at 9 p.m. (that race was originally scheduled for Saturday, and then Monday morning).
