Residents in Satellite Beach were alerted to a sewage line break and spill on Friday afternoon, as crews worked to fix the leak at 1390 S. Patrick Drive.

Residents of the area have been told to avoid swimming, fishing or wading in canals in the area,  until further notice.

Pumper trucks were used to transport sewage to the County's South-Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Viera after the leak spilled into a storm drain that leads into a canal, between Cinnamon Court and Island View Drive. The canal flows south between Island View Drive and Lansing Drive to Venetian Way.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time. The leak has been stopped and repairs are under way.
