Convicted felon jailed again after alleged assault

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A five-time convicted felon is behind bars again, after deputies say he was causing trouble at a gas station.

"I was afraid for my life and others around me," says Kyle Smith

Smith was about to gas up at Race Trac, off East Colonial, when he says a guy cut in front of him.

 "He pulled off to the right of me and sped past me and pulled in front of me."

After he told 31-year-old Eric Williams he was driving too fast, deputies say Williams started threatening him.

"Pulls around the back of my work van and rolls the window down and points a pistol at me and kind of waved it around like this at me and drove off smiling like it was funny."

But Smith was the one laughing, after he called 911.  Deputies say Williams sped up to 100 mph, weaving through traffic, hitting a car with a child in it and crashing into a tree. It turns out, he's been convicted of five different felonies. He is now charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

"It's not surprising, the way he acted, running from police and throwing his gun, so it doesn't surprise me whatsoever," Smith says.

Investigators also say, the gun was stolen out of Boyton Beach and had nine rounds of ammunition in it.

"He got caught with a gun, now he's going to go down hard."

Deputies say they plan to get the surveillance video from the gas station.
