Commissioners approve downtown UCF campus
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Orange County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to support a downtown campus for the University of Central Florida. Representatives from UCF presented the $75.2 million dollar project to commissioners. They say more than 7,600 students will be attending class downtown, between both UCF and Valencia College students.
Commissioners told UCF that they will support them as they ask for both state and county funding. UCF representative Fred Kittinger says, " We firmly believe the programs we identified to be downtown, will be made better because of the environment and amenities of downtown will increase the educational opportunities and employment opportunities once they graduate."
UCF hopes to open the downtown campus in 2018 in Creative Village, which is the old Amway Center location.
