Cocoa Beach board unanimously clears way for rides at pier

The Cocoa Beach Board of Adjustment voted unanimously Wednesday night to allow three carnival rides to go on the beach pier.

Developer David Siegel asked for the special exception to zoning rules so a carousel, a tornado ride, and a drop ride could be added to the attraction.

Board members came to the decision after developers agreed to close the rides by 8 p.m. each night, not use music on the rides, and not add any more rides to the pier.

Several residents spoke in favor of the plan Wednesday night but several others, especially condo owners near the pier, spoke against it. They fear the rides will add significant noise to the area and will take away from Cocoa Beach’s reputation as a “more relaxed” beach.
