Coast Guard rescues 2 boaters stranded on Disappearing Island

The United States Coast Guard says that they arrested two boaters on Sunday after their boat became stuck aground on Disappearing Island near Ponce Inlet in Jacksonville, Florida.

They say that Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received a call at 4 a.m. from the operator of a 19-foot pontoon boat, stating he had been stranded for seven hours after beaching his boat and being unable to relaunch it.

A Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon Inlet Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water boat crew was reportedly launched to assist at about 4:30 a.m. When the crew arrived on-scene, they recovered the boaters and transported them to the station where they were met by family members.

No injures were reported.
