These classic movies were just added to the National Film Registry

Twenty-five movies were chosen for the Library of Congress National Film Registry for 2024 based on their significance to U.S. film heritage. 

The new film inductees were announced Tuesday and include major Hollywood releases from the 1980s like "Dirty Dancing," "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

According to the Library of Congress, there were over 6,700 movie titles that received consideration, with several selected titles getting public support. 

Turner Classic Movies is hosting a television special on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET to show a selection of movies named for this year’s registry.
