ORLANDO, Fla. - The City of Orlando introduced "The Canopy", the newest part of the urban gathering space formerly known as the "Under-I Project" earlier this year.
"The name, The Canopy, was inspired by the newly updated design which blends nature and technology, drawing inspiration from Orlando’s beautiful canopy of trees, to create a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable urban oasis that reflects the spirit of downtown Orlando, connects its diverse neighborhoods and fosters a sense of belonging for all.", according to the city's website.
The most recent initiative of the project is the addition of approximately 150 temporary public parking spaces, which have been designed to cater to both short-term parking and pickup and drop-off zone needs.
The initiative provides two new lots located in downtown Orlando:
Pine Street between Garland Avenue and Hughey Avenue
- 3-hour public parking
- 11 a.m. - 4 a.m.
Central Boulevard between Garland Avenue and Hughey Avenue
- Designated for pick-up and drop-off only
- 6 p.m. - 3 a.m.
"This one-year pilot initiative is not merely an infrastructure development; it is a strategic endeavor to foster a safer, more efficient, and user-friendly environment for residents and visitors alike, navigating downtown Orlando.", the city release stated.
These additional spaces were created to help not only navigate but relieve congestion during downtown events and increase pedestrian safety.
Those utilizing the parking in the Pine lot will use the ParkMobile app.
