Central Florida Red Cross workers headed to assist those impacted in California wildfires
ORLANDO, Fla. - More than 200 trained Red Cross disaster workers from around the country, including several from Centra Florida, are headed to California to assist those impacted by the deadly wildfires.
The fires in Pacific Palisades and Hollywood Hills have displaced thousands, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history.
The Red Cross is working closely with its partners to continue to provide safe shelter, food, emotional support and other critical services to those in need.

Local Perspective: Several of the Red Cross workers heading to assist those impacted by the wildfires are from the Central Florida area, officials shared. Two of the workers are specifically from Orlando.
What We Know: Today, hundreds of evacuees woke up in emergency shelters, many of whom are struggling after losing everything. Local volunteers have traveled by air to Los Angeles to support relief operations for at least two weeks.

The Backstory: The Los Angeles area is grappling with a fifth day of wildfires after a massive flare-up of the Palisades fire forced more evacuations Friday night.
The Palisades and Eaton wildfires have killed at least 11 people and destroyed some 12,000 structures, as of Friday.
The wildfires are far from contained and are already expected to be the costliest in U.S. history and among the worst natural disasters.

What You Can Do: People looking to help those impacted by the wildfires can make a gift to Red Cross Disaster Relief.
Red Cross leaders said financial donations enable the organization to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters, big and small.
Visit redcross.org, call 800-RED-CROSS, or text the word CAWILDFIRES to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
The Fox Corporation also is encouraging viewers to help those impacted by the disaster.
FOX has donated $1 million to the Red Cross’ California wildfire relief efforts.
