Central Florida groups respond to Southern California wildfires
ORLANDO, Fla. - Some Central Florida organizations are stepping up to assist with the ongoing wildfires in Southern California, which have displaced thousands.
The fires in Pacific Palisades and Hollywood Hills have forced many to seek shelter with family and friends, while others face an uncertain future. In the span of just 48 hours, the fires have become the most destructive in Los Angeles history, leaving many without homes, pets, and loved ones.
Volunteers from the Central Florida Red Cross are set to fly out early tomorrow morning to aid victims.
"We put out a call yesterday for volunteers to man shelters for folks who are displaced," said Duhane Lindo, a spokesperson for the Central Florida Red Cross. "All four of the volunteers that are deploying so far have been deployed to other disasters before, so this is not their first rodeo."
The team will depart from Orlando International Airport, embarking on a 24-hour mission to assist those affected by the disaster.
