Busy travel weekend expected at OIA

Nearly 500,000 people are expected to travel through the Orlando International Airport this weekend, during one of the busiest holiday travel weekends of the year.

Airport officials are encouraging people to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled flight and to pack their patience. Officials also recommend wearing shoes that can come off easily when going through security and packing light.

“With all the international travel it’s not that bad if you leave yourself some time,” Mike Sisler, who traveled to Hartford, Connecticut on Friday morning, said.

More than 148,000 people were expected to travel through the airport on Friday. Officials anticipate Sunday being the busiest day with more than 162,000 passengers passing through the airport.

Officials expect Orlando International to a break a record this holiday season with more than 2.7 million passengers flying in and out of the airport.
