BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - In just two more days, thousands of Central Florida students will head back to the classroom. And for some students in Brevard, they will be attending a brand new school.
South Lake Elementary School is a new kind of school in Brevard County. A choice school that will focus on STEM education (science, technology, arts, and mathematics).
The school features two special classrooms called a 'maker space lab' and a 'smart lab.' These provide hands on opportunities for students to be innovative and create. In the lab, students can learn about digital imaging, software, engineering, electronics, robotics, and 3D printing.
The K-6 students will experience all kinds of new technology from inside a school that was once closed and forgotten a few years ago as a result of the recession. The school was refurbished and now will re-open as a choice opportunity for kids.
Brevard County students go back to the classroom on Friday.
