Bees kill dog, leave owner hospitalized

VIERA, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - A Brevard County man is recovering after being stung 100 times by a swarm of bees, which also killed his dog.

The company called out to handle the bees warns that electrical boxes and meters tend to attract the insects, because they love the warmth from the wires.

"However many bees you see buzzing around outside -- it could be 10, 20, 30 -- usually, you just multiply that by a thousand,” said Leo Cross, with Wildlife Trappers.

Cross said he is amazed and alarmed by the bee hive on Mrytlewood Way, where they are concentrated around the utility box.  Cross thinks the bees are fortified in the walls, and likely in the attic too.

Neighbors in the cul-de-sac are concerned, now that the house is totally infested with bees. The home-owners did not want to go on camera, but Cross said if they don’t allow his team to finish what they started, this is only the beginning of the bee problem.

Cross said some people in this neighborhood tried to go at the bees with the wasp killer and that just agitated them even more.
