MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Deputies with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday responded to Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School in Merritt Island to investigate a social media threat that was received by a student who attended the school.
The deputies met with the School Resource Deputy and were able to track down the suspect believed to be behind the threat. The person was arrested and subsequently deputies were able to locate a suspected weapon, which was determined to be a replica firearm.
"It is extremely important to recognize that threat is no longer considered to be credible, and the suspect, a juvenile, was determined to be non-lethal," said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey. "Today's case is a perfect example of what happens when we all work together to keep our schools safe!"
The suspect was charged with sending written threats to kill or injure and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
