VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The jellyfish invasion continues in Volusia County. Lifeguards say that 397 people were stung by jellyfish on Monday. All victims were treated without any major issues.
This brings the total of people stung by jellyfish in the last week and a half to just about 2,500. More of the stinging sea creatures are showing up on shore. Scientists point to rising temperatures, fishing, and farm runoff as some of the reasons why.
If you are stung by a jellyfish, the Volusia County Beach Safety says to exit the water and flag down a lifeguard truck or go to a staffed tower. Vinegar can be used to neutralize the tentacles and remove it with water or tweezers. It is important that you do not rub the area, which can make it worse.
