DeLand woman shot in stomach while driving home
Police in DeLand are investigating after a woman was shot while driving home from work. A suspect and motive remain unknown but detectives believe that, due to the number of bullets fired, it was a targeted shooting. However, they are not certain that the victim was the intended target.
DELAND, Fla. - DeLand police say a 62-year-old woman was shot on Monday night while driving home.
Officers responded to 800 block of Valleydale Avenue around 10 p.m. They say when they arrived, they found a 62-year-old woman parked in her car outside her home with a gunshot wound to her stomach.
"She told police that she was shot in the area of West Beresford Avenue and Sherwood Drive as she was driving home, which is less than a mile away from where the shooting is believed to have occurred," police said.
After being shot, the woman drove herself home and police were called.

A new 911 call reveals a man pleading for help.
Husband: "She was driving home from work. Somebody shot her."
Dispatcher: "Does she have any idea who shot her?"
Husband: "I don’t know who shot her. Get an ambulance here first."
Dispatcher: "Listen, I have them on the way."
The victim was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
The investigation is ongoing. Officers say they believe the shooting was done intentionally -- even if she wasn't the intended target.
