9-year-old Orange County private school student tests positive for coronavirus
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A 9-year-old student at a private school in Orange County has tested positive for the coronavirus, prompting a quarantine of the class.
The Florida Department of Health says the student attended the Circle Christian School in Winter Garden.
"Yesterday we learned that one of our students tested positive for COVID-19," the school wrote in a release. "This student was at our Winter Garden Campus earlier this week. This is the school’s first confirmed case across our four campus locations. While we were saddened to hear this news, we have been in contact with the student’s family and are pleased to report the student is doing well. We will continue to be in touch with the family to monitor the student’s progress."
Officials say at least 8 children and one staff member was exposed.
"In this instance, we have asked the 8 students and 1 faculty member from the impacted class to quarantine for the next two weeks."
All students at the school were required to wear face masks.
“Our objective is to walk wisely and faithfully through this season while responding decisively to the changing situation related to the Coronavirus,” said Jim Werner, Circle Co-Founder and administrator. "The health and safety of our students and teachers are paramount, especially during this time."

The school says all students who have attended the Winter Garden facility have moved to online-only instruction until August 24.
Circle Christian School says they implemented several new safety measures this year, including the requirement of face coverings and temperature checks.
The announcement comes just one day before Orange County Public Schools discuss the best way to reopen schools for face-to-face learning for students. A medical advisory committee is set to meet on Friday morning when they will make recommendations to the Orange County School District.
