'Turn the baby over!': 911 dispatcher teaches CPR after baby found in pool
A 911 dispatcher calmly helped a family member perform CPR on a 2-year-old girl who was found face down in a swimming pool over the weekend. VSO released the 911 calls and bodycam video from the call. The 2-year-old became awake and responsive and was taken to the hospital where she is "doing well and showing promising signs of making a full recovery."
DELEON SRPINGS, Fla. - A baby is recovering at the hospital after she was found unresponsive and pull from a pool over the weekend in DeLeon Springs.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said dispatchers received a frantic 911 shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday after the child was found face down in the pool. A family member was watching the child – and several other children – for their mom, deputies said.
The good news – the child was responsive and crying after CPR, and taken to the hospital where she is showing signs of making a full recovery, VSO said.
- 911 dispatcher: "OK, I want you to turn the baby over and see if there is any water. We want to drain the water out."
- Caller: "She's on her side right now"
- 911 dispatcher: "OK. Put the baby flat on her back on a hard surface. I want you to take one hand and place it on the center of her chest…and to press to a depth of one inch, OK? We're going to do 30 compressions."
- "OK"
- 911 dispatcher: "‘Go ahead and count with me, 1, 2…I want this rhythm. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6….'
The person on the other end then begins to count as a deputy arrives at scene. VSO paired the 911 call with the edited bodycam video, which appears to show a deputy running to the side of an above-ground pool where people are presumably huddled around the young girl.
Deputies said the Department of Children and Families has been contacted. No arrests or charges have been announced by VSO.
