MALABAR, Fla. - Two people died in a crash in Brevard County early Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on State Road 514 (Malabar Road) at Marie Street in Malabar.

Troopers said a pickup truck and an SUV were traveling eastbound on Malabar Road when the SUV slowed down to make a left turn onto Marie Street.

The driver of the pickup truck failed to notice the slowing SUV and rear-ended it.

As a result of the collision, the SUV veered off the road and overturned, according to troopers.

Both occupants of the SUV – a 56-year-old Melbourne man and a 42-year-old Malabar man – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt and remained at the scene.

The area was shut down for hours but has since reopened, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
