Two disturbances in the Atlantic Ocean merged on Tuesday to form one elongated low, the National Hurricane Center said, and that system has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression over the next seven days.
The two disturbances were previously identified as Invest 97L and Invest 98L, according to the NHC. That system now has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression by this weekend.

"Gradual development of the low is expected and a tropical depression is likely to form by this weekend while the system moves west-northwestward or northwestward at about 15 mph across the central tropical Atlantic," the NHC said in its public discussion about the system.
If it develops into a tropical storm, the next name on the 2023 Atlantic hurricane list is Nigel.
