1 seriously hurt after fire breaks out at Orlando home

A house in the Pine Hills neighborhood caught fire Monday morning, sending one person to the hospital, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

A house in the Pine Hills neighborhood caught fire Monday morning, sending one person to the hospital, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. 

Firefighters were called out to the area in the 5700 block of Cortez Drive in Orlando shortly after 6 a.m.

FOX 35's Nestor Mato spoke with one of the six family members who live at the home. 

"When I woke up, one of the front rooms was on fire. We just tried to call the police to come out here and help," she said. 

According to her, the person injured in the fire was a man in his 60s. He reportedly has severe burns on up to 80% of his body. Crews said he taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

The American Red Cross has been requested for six adults and one pet, OCFR said in a tweet.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
