ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A 19-year-old Orlando man is dead following a crash in Orange County near the entrance of the Fairway Glen community on Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. at Fairway Glen Drive and Rhode Island Woods Circle in the Orlando area and involved two vehicles.
The area is closed in both directions as troopers investigate. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
What we know:
Troopers said the man was driving a Honda Accord and was traveling westbound on Rhode Island Woods Circle, approaching Fairway Glen Drive.
At the same time, a 19-year-old woman, also from Orlando, driving a Chevy Equinox, was making a left turn to head south on Fairway Glen Drive. As she turned, the man attempted to pass her, entering the eastbound lane.
As a result, the right side of the Accord collided with the left side of the Equinox, causing the Accord to run off the road and strike a wall. The driver of the Accord died at the scene. The woman was not hurt and remained at the scene.
