OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - A search is scheduled to continue through the night for a boater who went missing this afternoon from a boat off the San Mateo County coast, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
One person is already dead and a Coast Guard cutter is searching the ocean for Tuan "Tom" Tran, who was operating a 17-foot vessel that was found spinning in the water south of Pillar Point Harbor.
Harbor personnel notified the Coast Guard at about noon that the boat Tran was operating was found about eight miles south of the harbor.
A harbor member found one boater unresponsive near the spinning boat, which was reported to have two people on board.
San Mateo County sheriff's officials have recovered the boat.
